FRESHMAN WALK-ON WINS FIRST COLLEGIATE MATCH

September 17, 2004 | Tennis

BOULDER ? University of Colorado freshman Allison Quinn and sophomore Martina Sedivec won their opening fall matches of the 2004-05 season taking the No. 7 and No. 8 singles, respectively defeating a pair of Notre Dame tennis players Friday afternoon on the first day of the CU Invitational at the CU-Boulder South Campus Tennis Courts.

The Buffaloes are hosting Auburn, Denver, and Notre Dame in the three-day tournament with Saturday and Sunday play remaining. Although there is no official team scoring in the fall season, individual singles and doubles matches are counted toward individual national rankings during the fall.

Quinn, a walk-on, who made the CU team earlier in the month played the No. 8 singles slot and defeated Bailey Louderback of Notre Dame 6-4, 6-1 in her first collegiate match. Sedivec, who won five of her last six to end the 2004 season, defeated Liz Donohue of Notre Dame, 7-5, 6-3 at No. 8 singles.

“At first it was intimidating playing Notre Dame, but I put my emotions aside and I was happy with the way I played,” said Quinn, who was a four-time letterwinner and three-time captain at ThunderRidge High School in Highlands Ranch.

Earlier in the day, CU played the Auburn Lady Tigers taking two of four doubles matches. Freshman Lynzee Kever and junior Jenny Hanson were victorious at No. 2 taking an 8-3 win over Jovic/Suitor; and at No. 4 freshman Gleisy Torres-Torres teamed with fellow freshman Brooke Stern for an 8-2 win over Peaden/Gray 8-2.

Day two of the CU Invitational begins Saturday morning at 9:30 with a singles match up between the Buffaloes and in-state rival Denver. Complete schedule for Saturday and Sunday is listed below.
