Women's Golf 19th At Price's Intercollegiate

October 18, 2005 | Women's Golf

LAS CRUCES, N.M ? The University of Colorado women's golf team had their third tough round in a row at the Price Give ?Em Five Intercollegiate here on Tuesday afternoon, finishing with a final round 316 and falling to 19th place.

The Buffs were all within three strokes of one another; unfortunately it was on the wrong side of par at the New Mexico State University Course.  Freshman Lindsay Caljouw carded the best score for CU on the day, a six-over 78.  She was followed by senior Maria Persson-Gulda and junior Hannah Hoch, who each shot 79.

“We never got it going today,” said head coach Anne Kelly.  “We're giving it 100-percent; the coaches the kids, everyone and nothing has come together for us yet.  We just didn't play very well. It's very frustrating for everybody. We are talented, but we're sure not doing it yet. You have to fight through these times. That's just golf.”

Colorado's top finisher was Persson-Gulda, whose three day tally of 74-76-79?229 put her 33rd for the tournament.  Caljouw was 51st with her 233 total, followed by Hoch in 59th at 235.

Junior Lindsay Senger trended down for the third straight round, improving her score two strokes with an 80 this morning, while Jessie Malcolm shot 81 to finish 93rd with her 244 total. Senger, playing in the fifth position, had her score count today. She finished 98th overall, with a three day mark of 247.

Missouri was the team winner for the tournament, with a three day effort of 300-292-299?891. The host institution, New Mexico State, took second with an 893, tying in state rival New Mexico.  San Francisco was fourth with a score of 897, with Long Beach State rounding out the top five with their 899.

Mikaela Backstedt of New Mexico took medalist honors in a playoff, shooting a 71-69-73?213 for her three round score.  She beat out Jessica Potter of San Francisco to take the honors, while first day leader Denise Munzlinger stumbled to a 76 and third place.

Colorado will now have just under two weeks to get sharp before their next tournament, the Kent Youel Invitational in Oahu, Hawai'i, which will run Nov. 1-2 at the Kapolei Golf Course.
