Women's Golf Finishes 10th at Ram Classic

September 13, 2005 | Women's Golf

Fort Collins, Colo.?The University of Colorado women's golf team wrapped up their first tournament of the season here Tuesday afternoon with a 10th place finish at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic with a final round 312.  Baylor won the tournament with a final round score of 295.

“We did some good things, but we didn't score very well or play very well as a team,” said head coach Anne Kelly. “So we've got a plan for the next week or so to intensify our practice and do some things to get us better and ready for the next tournament. Everyone is frustrated and ready to put in some hard work to get us ready to redeem ourselves.”

One harsh hole proved the difference for freshman Lindsay Caljouw and her bid to make the top 20 in her first collegiate outing.  Caljouw teed off on No. 10, and made par on her first four holes before she got to the par five No. 14 hole, where she posted a five-over 10.  That hole was the difference maker, as she played the rest of the course to even par after a birdie-bogey combination on the front nine.

Colorado got its best round of the day from senior Maria Persson-Gulda, who posted a three-over par 75 on the day.  She finished with a score of 226, good for a tie for 30th.

Junior and CU number one player Hannah Hoch was not able to rebound from a difficult start on Monday, shooting a nine-over 81.  She finished in 63rd place with a total of 237. Jessie Malcolm shot 79 on the day, wrapping up with 236 and Cierra Ko (79-81-85?245) rounded out the Colorado scoring on the day.

The Big 12 Conference rallied for a great day, taking the top three spots.  Baylor's Sian Reddick shot a final round two under 70 to tie her teammate Josefin Svenningson for medalist honors at 210.  Kansas' Amanda Costner shot a final round 69 to take second place with her three round total of 212.

The Buffaloes will hit the course again Sept. 26 in the Ron Moore Classic at Highlands Ranch Country Club in Highlands Ranch, Colo.
