Milewski Comes Up Short at UNM Invite Final

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.? University of Colorado freshman Monica Milewski's bid for four straight victories and the main draw title came to an end Sunday falling to New Mexico's Iva Gersic in a tough set marathon 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 at the four-team University of New Mexico Invitational.
It was the farthest of any of the CU women fared during its first fall tournament of the 2005 season. Senior Jessica Vanderdys finished third overall in the main draw upsetting Alabama's Amanda Bentley 6-2, 6-4. Bentley is currently the nation's No. 36 ranked collegiate player according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's fall rankings.
Milewski had not dropped a set in her first three matches, dropped the first set to Gersic, 7-5 who reached Sunday's final after also upsetting Bentley in the semifinals. Milewski, a freshman from Park Ridge, Ill., rallied in the second set taking a 6-3 decision, however lost in the decisive third set, 6-4.
Overall, the Buffaloes claimed 18 victories in the singles portion and six doubles wins.
The CU women are idle until Oct. 7-9 and travel to the United States Air Force Academy Invitational.
