Tennis Sends Four Singles Players To Central Region Round of 32

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah ? University of Colorado senior Martina Sedivec won her third straight singles match joining three other singles teammates in the winners' circle of the main draw in day two of the 2006 Wilson/ITA Central Region Women's Tennis Championships on Thursday.

The five-day regional runs from Oct. 18 through Sunday, Oct. 22 at the Eccles Tennis Center featuring 120 participants from 16 college teams across the region hosted at the University of Utah.

Sedivec defeated Mariel Tinnerello (Idaho) 6-3, 6-0 advancing to the Round of 32 to played be on Thursday. Other CU winners in the Round of 64 main draw were Franziska Jendrian, Veera Nurmi and Monica Milewski.

Milewski won her seventh match of the fall in nine outings defeating Ashley Schapper (Weber State) 6-1, 6-1; Jendrian and Nurmi each powered their way to their sixth win this season also winning in straight sets. Jendrian defeated Zeljka Juricek (New Mexico State) 6-4, 6-1 and Nurmi dominated Nuria Lozano (Montana State) 6-2, 6-0.

Gleisy Torres Torres dropped her first match of the season falling to Sarah Summerfield (Wyoming) 6-3, 6-4 in the Round of 64 main draw.

In doubles, the team of Jendrian/Milewski dominated Jessica Carter/Andrea Maughan (Utah), 8-1 to advance to the Round of 16, Friday after receiving a first round bye. The team of Sedivec/Torres Torres opened their Round of 64 play edging Greer Satherlie/Kirsten Stopple (Colorado State), 8-5, then subsequently fell in the Round of 32 to Dolly Chang/Chie Hayasaka (BYU), 8-2.

            CU also sent the duo of Nurmi and Victoria Almagno to the Round of 16 as they defeated Paij Porter/Leslie Vial (Northern Arizona), 8-2.

Friday features one round of main draw singles and two rounds of doubles, and consolation rounds starting at 8:30 a.m. The quarterfinals and semifinals of all draws will be played Saturday beginning at 9:00 a.m. The consolation and championship finals of both singles and doubles takes place Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
