Buffs Finish 16th at UNLV Rebel Invite

LAS VEGAS?The University of Colorado women's golf team struggled here Wednesday in their final round at Boulder Creek Golf Club, but still managed to hang on to 16th place with a score of 315 today.
The host UNLV squad held off a hard-charging BYU squad to take home first place with a team score of 879 after shooting 300 today. BYU was the best team on the course today with a 289, but the Rebels held off the Cougars by three strokes, 879-882. CU wrapped up with a three-round total of 935.
“Again there is a lot of good stuff going on, we just have a real hard time finishing,” said head coach Anne Kelly. “We saw a lot of good golf out there. We can't seem to keep our concentration just right at the end, so we'll have to work on finishing.”
Freshman Lindsay Caljouw had the best outing for the Buffaloes, carding a 77 for the second-straight day. Her back-to-back 77 days pushed her to the top of the CU lineup, giving her a 233 for the three rounds and a tie for 48th place.
Senior Maria Persson-Gulda was the Buffs' second-best golfer on the final day of play, shooting 78. She and junior Hannah Hoch tied in the standings after Hoch shot 81. They both finished with a three day total of 234, good for 56th place.
Lindsay Koth posted CU's third-best score on the day with a 79, her score for the second-straight day. She and sophomore Lindsay Senger both shot 238 for the tournament, tying them for 71st in the individual standings.
“With Senger and Koth, they just don't have a lot of experience in collegiate tournament play,” said Kelly. “But they are improving a lot even if it's not reflecting in their scores. They are getting a lot of experience. We will see them start to bring their scores down and that will help the team a lot.”
“Individually, everyone has their own things that are going well,” said Kelly. “Different people have different things they need to work on...short game, swings and so on. But collectively we'll need to work hard on finishing well and that's what we'll make our focus in the next 10 days before our next tournament.”
