Women's Golf: Second Round MountainView Results

CATALINA, Ariz. - The University of Colorado women's golf team fought through troubles on the green to post their second-best two round score of the season here at the MountainView Collegiate on Saturday.

The Buffaloes posted a 304-305-609 first day total, good for 12th place in the standings. The University of Denver is currently leading with a two round total of 591, followed closely by Northwestern, Missouri and Nebraska with a score of 592.

“The good news is, we have good depth on this team," said CU coach Anne Kelly. "We need a couple of players to step up and starting shooting closer to par. We are so close to that...I can feel it.”

Individually, Adriana Zwanck of Arizona is the overall leader after a three-under 69 in her first round and an even par 72 in round two. She is followed by Christi Athas (142) and Helene Robert and Chelsey Pryor, both with 143.

Colorado was lead by the junior-freshman tandem of Hannah Hoch and Lindsay Caljouw. Hoch posted CU's best single round score of the day with a 73 in the first round, while Caljouw responded with a second round 75, the best Buff round two score. The 73 was Hoch's best round of the year, topping a 74 in the first round of the Heather Farr Memorial.

“Today I was able to play 35 solid holes of golf,” said Hoch. “That one hole (posting an eight on hole No. 15 in her second round) really hurt my score, but overall I feel pretty good. We're getting closer as a team to putting up the scores we want to in order to be successful. Hopefully tomorrow we can come through.”

Following Hoch and Caljouw was CU's lone senior, Maria Persson-Gulda, who put together a 78-76-154 outing. Lindsay Koth and Lindsay Senger swapped spots in the No. 4 and No. 5 positions. Koth had a 77 in her first round to Senger's 80, but in the afternoon it was sophomore Senger with a 76 and Koth with a 77.

Colorado had two individuals also compete on Saturday. Jess Ellis had her best outing of her Colorado career, shooting 76 and 77, good for a total of 153 and the third highest CU finish of the day. Catherine Woods, a late addition this spring to the CU team, had her first day as a Buff in competition and produced an 80 in her first round, 78 in the second.

“Hannah is getting back on track,” said Kelly. “Even in the second round, despite her one tough hole, she played pretty well.”
