CU Senior Advances At Regional

TULSA, Okla. ? Senior Gleisy Torres Torres won her opening round matches with a pair of victories Wednesday afternoon at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Qualifier at the University of Tulsa.

The five-day event runs from October 17-21 and is hosted by the Golden Hurricane at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the TU campus.

Torres Torres defeated Rebecca Berger of Wyoming, 6-0, 6-1 in the opening Round of 64, then edged ninth seeded Edina Horvath of Kansas, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (8). It was Torres Torres' sixth win of the fall in 10 matches played, in addition to her 60^th and 61^st career singles match victories. Her two wins moves Torres Torres into an 18^th place tie on CU's all-time wins list.

The Buffaloes also saw junior Franziska Jendrian and freshman Abbie Probert in action, each achieving a 1-1 record on the day. Jendrian, seeded fourth, won her opening round match defeating Kansas State's Natasha Viera, 6-4, 6-7, 1-0 (4), however, dropped her Round of 32 match to Kansas' Yuliana Svistan 6-3, 6-2.

Probert also won her Round of 64 match defeating Melissa Hoffmeister (Arkansas) 6-3, 6-4, then dropped her next match to Denver's Shavani Tirumurti, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (7).

During the fall season, Jendrian is 7-3 (45-29 career), while Probert is 6-4 in her initial season at CU.

Day two of the main draw singles and doubles begins on Thursday.
