Sutherland Reaches 1000 Career Kills in Loss to Baylor

October 01, 2008 | Volleyball

WACO, Texas ? Senior Amber Sutherland recorded her 1,000th-career kill but it wasn't enough as the University of Colorado volleyball team fell in three sets to Baylor, 10-25, 14-25, 13-25, on Wednesday night at the Ferrell Center.

The Buffs are now 8-5 overall and are 2-2 in Big 12 play while the Bears are 12-3 overall and are 4-1 in the league.

Sutherland became just the 13th Buff in CU history to reach the milestone. The kill was her third of the match, which she recorded in the third set. The last Buff to reach 1,000 was Allie Griffin in 2005.

Emilee Sisco led the Buffs with four kills while Sutherland and Alex Penewell each tallied three. In total, CU only recorded 14 kills the entire match and hit -.083. It was the first time the Buffs have hit below .100 since hitting .092 against Nebraska on Sept. 22, 2004.

Alex Buth led CU with eight digs and Callie Webster recorded seven. The Buffs picked up 28 digs in the effort.

Baylor hammered 39 kills and hit .385 on the night. The Bears also recorded 13.5 total blocks and 45 digs. Anna Breyfogle led the Bears with 10 kills and 10 blocks while hitting .769.

The Buffs will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 4 when they travel to Lincoln, Neb. to take on the undefeated and No. 2 ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers. The match is set for a 2 p.m. (MST) start.
