Kyle Leads Buffs At Pre-Nationals

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. ? Junior transfer Jordan Kyle recorded a seventh-place finish in the ?white' race at the NCAA Pre-National Meet at the La Vern Gibson Cross Country Course, as the No. 3 University of Colorado men's cross country placed ninth overall.
Colorado's women's team finished 20th overall at the same meet.
“These were not the results that we had hoped for, but now we know where we are and what work we have to do,” head coach Mark Wetmore said. “We are confident that we can improve over the next few weeks. Let's hope that it is enough so that we can be representative at the conference and national level, where we have aspired to be.”
Kyle finished the 8 kilometer race in 23 minutes and 39.9 seconds. He was the highest placing Big 12 runner in the ?white' race. Kiel Uhl of Iowa State was the second highest with a 10th-place finish (23:43.4). Liberty's Samuel Chelanga won the race with a time of 22:51.3.
The Buffs recorded a score of 235 points. Stanford won the race with 77 points and Iona was second with 123.
Senior Chris Pannone was the second Buff to cross the finish. He recorded a 36th-place finish with a personal best of 24:17.5.
Junior Kenyon Neuman made his season debut at the meet. He finished 54th with a time of 24:27.5. Sophomore Richard Medina, who also ran his first official race of the season, was 59th. He finished with a time of 24:31.3.
Redshirt freshman Christian Thompson rounded out the team scoring by taking 79th (24:43.8). Sophomore Matt Tebo and redshirt freshman Andy Wacker were the No. 6 and 7 harriers for Colorado. Tebo finished the race in 25:01.9 and Wacker recorded a time of 25:02.0.
Junior Nick Miller was the only Buffalo to run in the men's open race. He finished with a career-best seventh place and a time of 24:52.7.
The Colorado women ran in the ?white' race and recorded 552 points for their 20th placing. Florida State and Princeton tied for the win with 89 points.
Sophomore Laura Thweatt was the first Buff to cross the finish the 6k loop. She took 86th overall and ran a mark of 21:46. Sophomore Allison Sawyer was 97th, finishing in 21:52. Junior Emily Hanenburg also finished under the 22-minute mark for CU. She recorded a time of 21:59 and a 106th-place finish.
Senior Morgan Ekemo and freshman Emma Coburn rounded out the team scoring. Ekemo was 125th (22:07) and Coburn recorded a 138th-place finish (22:12).
Freshmen Katie Cumming and Kaylen Slack also ran in the ?white' race for the Buffs. Cumming was 153rd (22:23) and Slack was 162nd (22:28).
The Colorado ?B' team will be in action on Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Air Force Invitational. The next action for the varsity squad is the Big 12 Championship which is on Saturday, Nov. 1 in Ames, Iowa.
