Milewski Wins Gold Draw Singles Final

BOULDER ? University of Colorado senior Monica Milewski won a pair of singles matches on Saturday en route to the Gold Draw Final Championship in day two of the six-team CU Invitational at the South Campus Courts.
CU is hosting Air Force, Illinois, Northern Colorado, Virginia Tech and Wyoming over the three-day event.
Sunday is the final day of competition consisting of two doubles rounds beginning at 9 a.m.
Milewski defeated Shivani Dav? of Illinois 6-0, 6-1 in one semifinal, then defeated teammate Melisa Esposito, 6-1, 6-2 in the final. Esposito advanced to the final after defeating fellow teammate Camila Belassi, 6-1, 6-4.
Belassi would go on the claim third place honors, defeating Illini's Dav?, 6-1, 6-4.
With the pair of wins on Friday and Saturday, Milewski moves into 20th place on the school's all-time singles wins list with 61.
Senior Franziska Jendrian won a pair of singles matches on Saturday in the Gold Draw Consolation bracket, both in straight sets over Wyoming's Sarah Summerfield, 6-3, 6-3 and Illinois' Amy Allin, 6-3, 6-2. Jendrian's three victories over the two days, moves her into a 19th place tie on the all-time singles wins list with 63.
Freshman Michala Hedelund Jensen also tallied a pair of consolation singles wins defeating CU teammate Allison Wahba, 6-3, 6-4, then defeated Luiza Xavier of Northern Colorado, 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles, it will be an all-CU Sunday final (9 a.m.) in the Ralphie Draw pitting Esposito and Jendrian against Belassi and Milewski.
Esposito/Jendrian edged Amy Allin and Maris Lambropoulos of Illinois, 8-6 in one semifinal, and in the other
Belassi/Milewski defeated Virginia Tech's Inga Beermann and Martha Blakely, 8-4.
In the consolation doubles back draw, the tandem of Christiane Pheil and Abbie Probert defeated Ronnie Spencer and Carly Van Hollen of Wyoming, 8-3; and the freshman duo of Hedelund Jensen and Allison Wahba defeated Northern Colorado's upperclassmen pair of senior Tiffany Knop and junior Hannah LaForest, 8-4.
On the day, Hedelund Jensen went a perfect 3-0.
