Belassi/Milewski Claim Doubles Title

BOULDER ? University of Colorado senior Monica Milewski and junior Camila Belassi teamed up for four straight victories over the three-day CU Invitational capturing the Ralphie Doubles Draw title, defeating fellow teammates Melisa Esposito/Franziska Jendrian, Sunday morning at the South Campus Courts.
Milewski went 9-0 over the three days winning five doubles and four singles matches she participated in.
Sunday marked the final day of competition that saw six schools participating over the three days. The final day saw two rounds of doubles competition.
Belassi/Milewski and Esposito/Jendrian each won two matches on Friday, then won their respective semifinal match on Saturday to meet in Sunday's final.
With a 6-3 deficit, Esposito/Jendrian fought back to claim a pair of points including a breaking of serve to close the margin to 6-5. However, Belassi/Milewski, who played the No. 1 doubles slot a year ago, in addition to earning All-Big 12 doubles honors, held on for an 8-6 victory.
In other round-robin doubles play, Belassi/Milewski remained a perfect 5-for-5 in their first fall tournament of the season defeating Tabatha Knop/Manuel Santos of Northern Colorado, 8-1; Esposito/Jendrian blanked UNC's Tiffany Knop/Hannah LaForest, 8-0; and Christiane Pheil/Abbie Probert edged Carolina Chaix/Virginia Iwinski of Wyoming, 8-4.
Joining the Buffaloes over the three-day invite were Air Force, Illinois, Northern Colorado, Virginia Tech and Wyoming.
Up next for CU is the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championship Qualifier/Main Draw in Los Angeles, Sept. 30-Oct. 5, and the United States Air Force Academy Invitational, Oct. 3rd and 4th.
