Buth Leads Buffs Past Arkansas-Little Rock

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas ? The University of Colorado defeated the University of Arkansas-Little Rock 15-25, 25-20, 25-23, 27-25 at the Islander Holiday Inn-Emerald Beach Invitational on Friday.

 

With the win, the Buffs are off to an impressive 4-0 start to begin the 2008 season.

 

Alex Buth led CU with 17 kills. She hit .341 (17k-3e-41att) in the victory. Buth also picked up a team best 22 digs for her first double-double of the season.

 

Emilee Sisco also recorded double-digit kills for CU with 16 and Lauren Schaefer added 10 while hitting a team best .348.  

 

Amber Sutherland only recorded five kills in the win, but she recorded 20 of CU's 83 digs in the match. Kaitlyn Burkett and Callie Webster each picked up 11 for CU.

 

Schaefer also led the Buffs with five block assists. Burkett added four (one solo and three assists).

 

Colorado got out of the gates slow in the first game. The Buffs hit just .095 with nine kills and five errors on 42 attacks. UALR recorded a .304 attack percentage (17k-3e-46att).  

 

CU showed improvements in each of the next three games. The Buffs hit .184 in the second (13k-6e-38att), .222 in the third frame (15k-5e-45att) and a match-best .255 in the fourth set (17k-5e-47att). Overall, they hit .192 in the match while UALR recorded an overall attack percentage of .222 (63k-21e-189att).

 

The Buffs will be back in action on Saturday to conclude the invitational. They will start the day against Texas Southern at 9 a.m. (MST) and finish the tournament against host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 6 p.m.
