December 31, 2009 | Women's Basketball

Colorado has won three straight, 7-of-8 and is 9-2 through 11 games for the second time in three years (2007-08).

The Buffaloes are a perfect 8-0 at home, equaling their best start to the home schedule since winning their first eight at home in 2003-04.

Colorado improves to 5-0 all-time against the Southwestern Athletic Conference

Colorado reached 80 points for the fifth straight home game (86.0 ppg). It's the first time CU has scored 80-plus in five straight at home since the 2001-02 season when the Buffs registered 80 in six straight with wins over San Diego (83-44), Bowling Green (96-44), Houston (88-58), Iowa (92-83),  Air Force (80-47) and Wyoming (81-57)

Colorado had 12 steals against Grambling State, giving the Buffs double-digit steals in seven of 11 games this season. CU had only five games with double-digit steals in 2008-09 and seven total in 2007-08.

Colorado had 13 3-point field goals, its most since netting 14 at Colorado State on Dec. 1, 2007. The Buffaloes also tied their season high with 27 attempts. Previously they had made 11 against Seton Hall, and attempted 27 against Minnesota.

Colorado's 92 points are its most since scoring 93 against Colorado State on Nov. 19, 2008.

Colorado had four players score in double digits (Brittany Spears 20, Meagan Malcom-Peck 11, Kelly Jo Mullaney 11, and Chelsea Dale 11).  This is the third time this season that the Buffs have had four players score in double digits.

Brittany Spears had 20 points six assists and four steals. Her six assists tie a career high (a number she's now reached four times). She was 8-of-15 on the evening including 2-of-5 from 3-point range. Spears has now made 47 of her last 82 field goal attempts (.573) and 14-of-23 from 3-point range (.609).

Spears has scored 20 or more points in six games this season including three straight and 4-of-5. She is averaging 22 points over the last five games.

Junior Chelsea Dale had a career-best 11 points on 4-of-4 from the field, including two 3-pointers. It's her first double-digit point performance, in fact she had just five points in six games this season and just 19 in 29 career games entering tonight.

Kelly Jo Mullaney scored 11 points, her most since netting 13 against Illinois-Chicago on Nov. 20. She was 1-of-2 from downtown improving her season total to 6-of-12 in 11 games. She made just nine 3-pointers in 28 games in 2008-09.

Senior Courtney Dunn had a career-best four assists and tied a personal high with eight rebounds.

Freshman Meagan Malcolm-Peck registered three blocks for the fifth time this season. Over the last two games she is averaging 7.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks.

Junior guard Whitney Houston started her second game of the season and her first since the season opener against UC Irvine.

Freshman guard Chucky Jeffery missed her first game action sitting out tonight with a sprained right ankle.

Both sisters got into the scoring mix tonight as freshmen guards/forwards Brenna Malcom-Peck set a new career high in points with 6.  Sister Meagan Malcom-Peck finished with 11.  The 17 total points between the two twins is the most combined points on the season for the two.

The bench saw a good amount of playing time tonight.  Freshman center Melissa MacFarlane set a new career high in minutes played with 6.  Brenna Malcolm-Peck played in 13 total minutes tying her career high set against San Jose State.  Sophomore forward Julie Seabrook set a new season high playing in 12 minutes tonight.

Colorado got off to a hot start opening up the first 10:00 of the game on a 25-7 run, led by sophomore guard Alyssa Fressle's six points.  The team shot 9-of-18 from the field during their opening run.
