Tennis Advances Quartet to Singles Quarterfinals

CU is hosting Air Force, Arkansas, Colorado State, and Louisiana-Lafayette. Day two begins with singles play on Saturday at 9 a.m.
Overall it was a solid day for the Buffaloes tennis team in their first showing of the year, placing five players in the singles quarterfinals and sending two doubles pairs to the quarterfinals.
In the Gold Singles Draw, Camila Belassi kicked her senior season off with a victory over Valentina Starkova of Arkansas, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Seniors Melisa Esposito and Monica Milewski also notched wins in their opening matches of the 2009 campaign. They advanced to the quarterfinals with first round victories.
Esposito defeated Claudine Paulson (ARK), 6-4, 6-3, while Milewski defeated Shannon Young (AFA), 6-1, 6-2. Junior Abbie Probert had a nice start to the season with a win over Tori Arneson of CSU, 6-3, 6-0.
In the Black Singles Draw, Colorado freshman Erin Sanders defeated fellow sophomore teammate Allie Wahba, 6-7(4), 6-4, 3-2, retired. Sanders also advanced to Saturday's quarterfinals.
The Silver Doubles Draw will see two Colorado pairs advance to the quarterfinals. Milewski/Anuszkiewicz defeated Wahba/Gray (CU/ARK), 8-3. The second CU team to move on was Probert/Sanders, who defeated Young/Rudico (AFA), 8-0.
On Saturday, Milewski/Anuszkiewicz will play the Razorbacks' Carbone/Starkova. CU's Probert/Sanders will also play an Arkansas pair, Lukomskaya/Sundaram.
