Hedelund Jensen Advances to AFA Semifinal

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of Colorado junior Michala Hedelund Jensen advanced to the semifinal round of her respective singles bracket in the first day of the 2010 USAFA Invitational.

            The three-day tournament hosted by the United States Air Force Academy is being played at the Academy's outdoor tennis facility. Joining the Buffaloes and the host Falcons are Arizona, Colorado State, Eastern Michigan, Iowa State, New Mexico, Northern Colorado, Oklahoma State, Oregon, UNC-Greensboro, and Wyoming.

            In the Delta singles bracket, Hedelund Jensen defeated Arizona's Jane Huh, 6-3, 6-1 in the opening Round 16 match, then later in the day in the quarterfinals edged Rebecca Berger of Wyoming, 7-5, 6-3. Hedelund Jensen improves to 4-1 on the fall season.

            The junior from Frederiksberg, Denmark will play Marie Chartier of Iowa State in Saturday's semifinals.

            CU freshman Kristina Schleich went 1-1 on the singles court defeating Nino Mebuke (Eastern Michigan) 6-2, 7-5. In the afternoon session, Schleich fell to Iowa State's Erin Karonis, 6-2, 7-6 in the quarterfinal round.

            The CU doubles teams went 1-4 on the day with Hedelund Jensen and Schleich picking up the lone victory in the Doubles II consolation round as they defeated Colorado State's Tori Arneson and Lauren Pick, 8-4.
