Janssens Advances to ITA Quarterfinals

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - University of Colorado sophomore Winde Janssens won her third straight singles match advancing to the quarterfinal round on Friday on day two of the 2011 USTA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Mountain Region Championships at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on the UNLV campus.
Janssens has won five of her last six singles matches during the fall season, defeated Jessica Parizher of Wyoming, 6-4, 6-2 during the afternoon competition featuring more than 120 women's collegiate tennis players are competing this week (Oct. 12-16) in Las Vegas.
Janssens will now play top-seeded Anastasia Putilina of Utah. Putilina received a first round bye, has defeated a pair of opponents by identical 6-3, 6-4 scores. Friday's quarterfinal match will be played at 10:30 a.m. (MST).
"Winde is playing great tennis and we're excited to see go against the top player in the region," CU head coach Nicole Kenneally said. "Winde has played three quality opponents and it will be fun to watch her play in the quarterfinal round."
CU did not fare in the consolation singles round as Utah State's Mckenzie Davis defeated sophomore Carla Manzi Tenorio, 6-3, 6-2; and BYU's Meghan Sheehan-Dizon defeated senior Ania Anuszkiewicz, 6-1, 6-1.
In the Round of 64 doubles field played Thursday morning, Anuszkiewicz and Janssens lost to Juliette Legendre and Sophie Stevens (Nevada), 8-4. CU's Manzi Tenorio and sophomore Kristina Schleich, received a first round bye, however had to default their match as Schleich withdraw due to sickness.
