Morris and Dodson Advance to Finals At Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. - University of Colorado sophomore Joe Morris and junior Quinton Dodson advanced to the finals of the 60-meter dash on Friday at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational.

Morris and Dodson placed second and third, respectively, in the prelims of the 60-meter dash. Dodson won the first heat with a time of 6.81 seconds, besting Johnson County Community College's Alex Sanders who finished in 6.82. Morris advanced by winning the fifth and final heat with a time of 6.75. He had a .09 advantage over the second-place finisher, Dax Danns (unattached).

Morris also advanced to the finals in the 200 after clocking the third best time of the night in the prelims at 21.55; winning the third section to automatically qualify. Dodson placed 14th overall to advance to the consolation finals. He ran a time of 21.85 to finish second in his section. The finals and consolation finals for both the 60 and 200 are on Saturday.

Martin Medina placed third in the 5,000-meter run for the Buffs after recording a time of 15:04.81. He finished just off the pace of Fort Hays State's Cameron Reith's time of 14:59.18.

A couple of CU assistant coaches also competed at the Husker Invite on Friday. Sprints coach Drew Morano won the prelims of the 400 after running a time of 47.95; he will compete in the finals on Saturday. Volunteer coach Emily Pearson placed second overall in the women's pentathlon after putting together a score of 4,038 points. She placed second to NU's Chantae McMillan, who earned 4,378 points. Volunteer coach and recent CU grad Jeremy Dodson won the prelims of the 200 after finishing his heat with a time of 21.31. 

The Buffs also had a group of athletes competing at the New Mexico Classic in Albuquerque, N.M. on Friday night. After the first day of competition in the men's heptathlon Alex Von Hagen sits in third place after recording a long jump of 22 feet, 2.50 inches, a personal best and season high mark for CU.

Adam Salzmann also had two personal bests after the first four events. He finished the 60 in 7.18, improving his PR by .01 seconds. He also recorded a high jump of 6-03.75. Both of these marks helped him finish seventh on the day for Colorado. Brock Emory and Eddie Taylor currently sit in 10th and 11th place, respectively.

Sophomore Holly Odneal recorded personal bests in the high jump (5-04.50) and long jump (16-08.75) to lead the way for the Buffaloes in the pentathlon as she finished sixth overall. Genny Mayden also recorded a PR with a total of 3273 points as she managed season high marks of 16-08.75 in the long jump and a 35-06.00 mark in the shot put to place seventh. She recorded a personal best time in the 800-meter run after crossing the finish line in 2:38.50.

CU will wrap up competition at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational and the New Mexico Classic on Saturday. There will also be a trio of freshmen competing at the USA Junior Cross Country Championships on Saturday.
