Women Ranked Second, Men Fifth, In USTFCCCA Preseason Poll

August 30, 2016 | Cross Country

BOULDER — The USTFCCCA preseason rankings are out and the Buffs are once again near the top of the polls. The women's team is second overall, while the men are listed at No. 5.

The women's team, which placed second at nationals after winning the Pac-12 and NCAA Mountain Region Championships in 2015, returns eight letterwinners, including a pair of All-Americans in senior Erin Clark and junior Kaitlyn Benner. CU also adds a talented new group with four newcomers joining the roster.

The men, who also won the Pac-12 and NCAA Mountain Region Championships while placing second at NCAAs, return eight letterwinners, but they have some rebuilding to do. Colorado graduated four All-Americans, but bring back a pair of All-Americans in senior Ben Saarel and sophomore John Dressel. Just like the women, the men have a good pool of newcomer talent with seven freshmen.

In the regional polls, which were released on Monday, both teams were rated second. The women were second to No. 1 New Mexico, while the men were behind No. 3 Northern Arizona.

The first meet of the season for Colorado is this Friday, Sept. 2, as the Buffs will travel north to Fort Collins, Colo. for the Colorado State Invitational.
