Buffs To Face No. 30 Washington In First Round Of The Pac-12 Championships

April 25, 2017 | Tennis

BOULDER – On Wednesday, April 26, Colorado's women's tennis team will head to Ojai, Calif., to compete in the Pac-12 Championships to decide who is the best team in the conference.

This season the championships will be for the first time in the tournaments' history, a team competition format instead of the traditional individual competition.  The matches will be played in the traditional format with doubles starting the day, before heading into the singles competitions.

The Buffs enter the tournament seeded as the No. 10 team and on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. MT, will face the No. 30 Washington Huskies, seeded No. 7, in the first round of the tournament.

CU enters the tournament with a 9-12 (1-9 Pac-12) record and they finished tenth in the conference.  Washington finished 16-8 (5-5 Pac-12) and they gained themselves a seventh-place finish in the conference.

Buff senior Nuria Ormeño Ruiz has lead the Buffs through the season, carrying a 19-14 record into the tournament.  Ruiz is holding a 10-10 record playing No. 1 for the Buffs and she'll look to anchor CU throughout the tournament in her final matches as a Buff.

Coming off a big win against Utah in the final match of the regular season, sophomore Annabelle Andrinopoulos looks to continue that momentum into the tournament and she's put together a record of 14-13 through the season and will look to snag her 15th win on the season.

Junior Louise Ronaldson will get her first taste of the Pac-12 tournament, having transferred from the SEC's Mississippi State in the offseason, as she carries a 16-9 record into the tournament and she'll be a key component for the Buffs to be successful in Ojai.

Freshman Chloe Hule has had a great first season in Boulder putting together a 11-15 record while playing the middle of the lineup throughout the season and being an important part of Colorado's matches throughout the season.

Junior Kyra Wojcik (9-13) and sophomore Brigitte Beck (3-13) round out the Buffs lineup and both women will play key roles for CU throughout the tournament, as Colorado will look to start the competition with a big upset of Washington.

Colorado's opening day match will be the third and final match played in the day, and the winner will move onto the next round to face the No. 16 University of California Golden Bears, seeded No. 2 in the tournament.

The Pac-12 Networks will carry the final match in the tournament, scheduled for Saturday, April 29 at 4:00 p.m. MT.  But live stats will be available throughout the tournament, along with complete notes and brackets at pac-12.com/tennischamps.  Direct links to live stats for Colorado's match will be posted via twitter when they become available.
