Ormeño Ruiz Earns Second Team All-Pac-12

BOULDER – University of Colorado tennis player Nuria Ormeño Ruiz was named to the All-Pac-12 second-team here Friday in the conference's postseason awards voted by the coaches. It is the second conference award she has earned in her career as she was named to the honorable mention team last year.
 
A Barcelona, Spain native, Ormeño Ruiz led CU in her final season. Ormeño Ruiz recorded a 19-14 singles record including 10-10 in the No. 1 singles spot.  She also had a team high 19 wins. Ormeño Ruiz had many senior year highlights including powering past No. 51 ranked Caroline Doyle of Stanford in April. She defeated Doyle 6-0, 6-4.
 
For her career, she posted an 80-50 career singles record, including 18-20 at the No. 1 singles position. She also went 58-52 in doubles play. She defeated a total of eight nationally ranked opponents during her career including six in singles play.
 
Nuria Ormeño Ruiz Career Highlights
• 19-14 overall and 10-10 at No. 1
• Moved into a tie for ninth place in CU history for wins at No. 1 singles with her 15th career
victory at that position on Feb. 15 at Air Force
• Won the CU Invitational singles championship with a 3-0 record and was also 3-0 in
doubles play.
• Went 3-0 in qualifying at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships against three
nationally-ranked opponents before falling in the Round of 32 of the Main Draw to North
Carolina's Sara Daavettila, the top-ranked freshman in the nation.
• Upset No. 74 Gabriela Porubin (Wichita State), No. 33 Andie Daniell (Alabama) and No. 59
Gabriela Knutson (Syracuse) in the Qualifying Draw at the All-American Championships.
• Finished the fall with a team-best 8-3 singles record and 5-1 doubles record, reaching the
round of 16 at the ITA Mountain Regional in singles and the quarterfinals in doubles.
• Paired with Louise Ronaldson to upset 43rd-ranked Blaga Delic/Sheila Morales from
Nevada 8-3 in the round of 16 of the ITA regional.
• Went 3-1 with Jeannez Daniel at the IU Winter Invitational in doubles.
• Became first-ever CU player to qualify for and compete at National Indoor Championships
after winning the ITA Mountain Region singles championship in 2015.
• Named CU Female Athlete of the Week on Oct. 20, 2015 after her regional championship.
• Led the team in singles wins (23), No. 1 singles wins (7), tournament wins (11), Pac-12
wins (4) and dual-match wins (12) in 2015-16.
• Her 23 singles wins last season ranked 28th in CU single-season history.
• Earned a 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 win over 27th-ranked Lauren Marker in CU's 4-3 win over Arizona
on March 13, 2016, her first win over a ranked opponent last season.
• Earned a 6-4 doubles win over the 40th-ranked doubles pair from Northern Colorado on
Feb. 12, 2016.
• Ranks 18th in CU history in singles wins (69), 13th in singles winning percentage (.639)
and 22nd in combined singles and doubles wins (113).
• Led the team with two match-clinching singles wins and four doubles-clinching wins in
2015-16.
