Buffs Earn Pair of High Jump Victories in Day One

BOULDER – The University of Colorado track and field program completed the first day of competition of the 2019 Potts Invitational Friday afternoon, taking home a pair of titles in the high jump at the first home meet of the season.

Freshman Jeremy Cody kicked things off with a win in the men's high jump with a jump of 2.03 meters (6-7.75). He won the meet after cleared the 2.00m mark and went on to clear the next height on his first attempt. Cody was efficient in his jumps, making as many heights as he had misses.

On the women's side of the high jump, Michaela Winning took the victory on jumps with a clearance of 1.70m (5-7). She was joined by teammate Kylee Harr who also cleared 1.70m in her first collegiate meet. Both cleared the mark on their first attempts, and like Cody, Harr had as many clears as she did misses with five.

The high jump was a good scoring event for the Buffaloes with Giancarlo Narvarte earning third for the men with a mark of 1.95m, while Josh Farmer was fifth with 1.85m. Maja Wichhart-Donzo also picked up a point for the women after clearing 1.60m.

The weight throw was another event that Colorado picked up points in, led by Elisa Grandemange on the women's side with a toss of 16.53m (54-2) to place fourth overall. For the men, Caleb Penner placed fifth with a toss of 15.70m (51-6).

Two more CU athletes scored, both placing sixth in their events. Gunner Rigsby jumped 6.47m (21-2.75) in the long jump and Davis Butte jumped 4.55m (14-11.25) in the pole vault.

The meet begins tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. with the conclusion of the field events with the shot put and triple jump events. After that the running events will begin at 1 p.m.
