April 03, 2019 | Tennis
BOULDER – The University of Colorado women's tennis team heads to Los Angeles this weekend for matches against No.11-ranked USC on Friday at 1:30 p.m. (MT) and No.8 UCLA Saturday at 1 p.m. (MT).
Â
Colorado (10-8, 3-2 Pac-12) has won four of its past five matches, including a win against No.28 Washington State and the second-ever road conference win in the Pac-12 against Arizona. CU begins a five-match streak against ranked teams this weekend and are looking for a good start before hosting No.5 Stanford and No.19 Cal next weekend.
Â
CU is led by Monica Malinen and her 21-7 singles record this season, including 15-3 in duals. She and Annabelle Andrinopoulos have entered the ITA doubles ranking in the 35th spot after defeating the then-No.2 duo at Arizona State and winning their last three completed doubles matches with a pair of 4-4 unfinished matches included. In the stretch since their loss to the 43rd ranked duo from Washington, Andrinopoulos and Malinen have led CU to five-straight doubles points.

With her singles victory last weekend Malinen is now tied for 39th in school history with 21 wins in a season. With at least six matches remaining Malinen has a chance to move to tied for ninth all-time in a season in CU history. Her .750 winning percentage is tied for 15th in school history in a season, and if she wins out she could end up in the top-10 in season history.
Â

Their only close match was against ASU in a 4-3 win in Tempe and a 5-2 loss against Cal before opening conference play. USC's only loss outside of Pac-12 opponents came in the beginning of February with a 4-3 loss to SMU in Texas.
