April 05, 2019 | Tennis
LOS ANGELES – The University of Colorado women's tennis team fell to No.11-ranked USC this afternoon in Los Angeles by a score of 4-0.
Â
Colorado (10-9, 3-3 Pac-12) came out strong with an opening set win in the No.3 doubles match against the Trojans (15-3, 5-1 Pac-12), but quickly was defeated in the point to lose their first doubles point in the last six duals. Ky Ecton and Tallulah Farrow swept Constantine Branstine and Salma Ewing 6-0. Shortly after Annabelle Andrinopoulos and Monica Malinen fell in a matchup of the No.35 doubles team against USC's No.14 doubles team in Angela Kulikov and Rianna Valdes by a score of 6-3 in the No.1 doubles match. Becca Weissmann and Danielle Willson clinched the point by beating Sara Nayar and Megan Forster 6-3 in the No.2 doubles match.
Â
Down 1-0, CU looked to make up the gap but lost all but one opening set in singles. Megan Forster was the only set winner with a 7-6(2) defeat of Becca Weissmann in the No.4 match, but it was too late as the dual was clinched before the second set could begin.
Â
The Trojans took the second team point in the No.6 singles match with Branstine defeating Ecton 6-1, 6-2. Nayar was the second Buff to fall against No.43 Ewing by a score of 6-2, 6-2. The match was clinched by No.122 Danielle Willson in the No.5 singles match by a score of 6-3, 6-1.
Â
