CU Posts Big Marks in First Day of Colorado Invitational

BOULDER – The University of Colorado track and field program began the Colorado Invitational Friday afternoon at Potts Field with numerous personal best marks in just six events.

Gunner Rigsby had a huge day with a runner up finish in the triple jump. His final jump of the competition of 14.80m (48-6.75) was a new personal best by three inches. Rigsby will look to follow the progress tomorrow in the long jump.

Caleb Penner also had a personal bests day with a toss of 53.84m (176-8) in the hammer throw for a fourth-place finish. Brock Knechtel joined him with a nearly one meter personal best of 51.43m (168-9) for seventh. Henry Carlson rounded out near personal best marks in the throws with a fourth-place finish in the javelin at 52.91m (173-7).

On the women's side of throws, Elisa Grandemange threw 56.61m (185-9) to finish third overall in the women's hammer. Mariah Walker finished 13th with a toss of 43.36m (142-3). In the javelin, Michaela Wenning placed eighth at 32.20m (105-8) and Drianna Mustin placed 12th with a throw of 22.31m (73-2).

Also for Colorado, Cheyenne Cheshier jumped 11.33m (37-2.25) in the women's triple jump for sixth overall.

The meet continues tomorrow at 10 a.m. at Potts Field with the rest of the field events and the start of the steeplechase.
