Colorado Hosts Final Home Meet of Season

BOULDER – The University of Colorado track and field program hosts the Colorado Invitational this Friday and Saturday at Potts Field.

The meet will feature three NCAA Division I opponents in Air Force, Colorado State and Northern Colorado. In addition, there will be 14 NCAA Division II teams, including 11 from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. In total there are 21 teams scheduled to compete and numerous other non-NCAA athletes entered.

Events begin Friday at 2 p.m. with the javelin, hammer throw and triple jump competitions. The rest of the schedule begins at 10 a.m. Saturday with the conclusion on the field events and the beginning of the track events.

The men's 1,500 will be an event to watch with Joe Klecker slated to open his outdoor season. He will be joined by John Dressel and Ryan Forsyth in the event along with numerous individuals current and former from the Division II level with sub-3:45 times. There are more than 100 athletes registered for the race with seven registered under the 3:45 mark.

A key event on the women's side will be the 800. The 800 field features a stacked amount of Buffaloes with both Mann sisters and Sage Hurta making her season debut. Also Annie Hill, Olivia Brooks and Bailey Nock all are competing in a field that features a pro with a 2:02 personal best and seven entered with times under 2:10.

Relays will be another key focus for CU with the season debut of the 4x100-meter relays for both the men and women. Eriana Henderson, Valerie Welch, Dani Johnson and Gabby Scott will open the 4x100, while Jon Maas, Kellen Monestime, Kendal Smith and Duane McClurkin Jr. will form the men's squad. The women's 4x100 team will also be together in the women's 4x400 along with a pair of CU sister squads with the Mann sisters, Samantha Crosmer and Kylie Davis forming a second squad and the Constien sisters, Holly Bent and Madison Boreman forming a third team.

The 400 hurdles will also be a huge event for CU with Aaron McCoy and Monestime racing after Monestime ran sub-53 seconds last Sunday in Greeley. The women's quartet of Scott, Henderson, Welch and Davis will also race in the 400 hurdles. The 400-meter dash will be a focus for the rest of the men's sprinters with McClurkin Jr., Maas and Smith racing in the open.

Friday's events are free to the public, while admission will be charged at $8 per person Saturday. After this week the Buffaloes have a meet at CSU next weekend and prep for the busy California weekend after that with four meets on the West Coast including the Cardinal Classic and Mt. SAC Relays.
