Buffs Travel East For Two Matches

BOULDER – Colorado leaves for its final road trip of the regular season to take on Cincinnati and West Virginia. The Buffaloes will begin with the Bearcats on Friday and finish with the Mountaineers on Sunday.
Colorado continues its first season back in the Big 12 and will finish the road slate by playing two teams for the first time in program history.
"Cincinnati and West Virginia are two great opportunities for our group," head coach Anthony Pham said. "We've shown time and time again that we can play with anyone. I know our group is excited to hit the road and get back on the court and hopefully take advantage of these two opportunities."
This season has given different players different opportunities due to players being out of the lineup. Anya Nelson, who was primarily a doubles player early in her career, has played in singles the last four matches, which included her first conference match.
Betina Tokac, on the flip side, played in doubles with Pia Rebec after competing in singles most of the season. Despite not having a finished win to their record, Rebec and Tokac have led in every match they have played this season when the doubles point was clinched.
Even last weekend, with only six healthy players for singles, Willow Gretsch took the court at No. 6 singles. No matter what the situation has been this season, every Buff has stepped up to the plate.
"Our group has done a commendable job no matter what the situation has presented; they've stepped up and competed," Pham commented. "That's something that we pride ourselves in. We try to get each one of them to prepare every day, as if their opportunity is coming. For some of them, they're not sure when that comes, but when it does come, you have to be ready for it. I think as a group we've done a good job with that."
Colorado will start the weekend against Cincinnati on Friday at 11:00 a.m. (MT) at the Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center. The Bearcats come in with an 8-10 record after beating Northern Kentucky 7-0 on Wednesday. They have a 7-3 record at home this season.
The Buffs will follow that match with an early start on Sunday against West Virginia, scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. (MT) at the Mountaineer Tennis Courts. The Mountaineers are currently 7-14 on the season.
"It's just different venues, different locations, different teams, different coaches that were, we're not accustomed to playing," Pham said about their first season in the Big 12. "It's just part of it. The Big 12 as a whole is a strong conference, and Cincinnati and West Virginia are good teams. We'll put our best foot forward and go out there to battle and compete."
