Skiing Returns to Alpine Action in Nevada
January 29, 2026 | Skiing
BOULDER -- The Colorado ski team returns to alpine competition this week as the RMISA season continues with a four-day series of races in Nevada, Jan. 31–Feb. 3. It marks the first alpine action since the Buffs hosted a four-day stretch of races at Loveland and Aspen Jan. 12–15, which included the DU and CU Invitationals.
Colorado enters the Nevada races with the lead in both of those alpine meets after a strong opening stretch that saw consistent production across the roster.
The schedule opens with slalom races on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, followed by giant slalom competition on Feb. 2 and 3. The first race of each discipline will serve as an RMISA Alpine Qualifier, featuring individual results only with no team scoring. The second race of each discipline will count toward the Nevada Invitational.
This week's competition marks the first Nevada Invitational since 2010. Nevada discontinued its ski program shortly after that season, before reinstating the program ahead of the 2023 campaign. Colorado has won three Nevada Invitationals in program history, claiming titles in 1999, 2006 and 2010.
Through the first four alpine races of the season, the Buffs have shown impressive depth and consistency, combining for 24 top-10 finishes. All 10 skiers who competed in those races recorded at least one top-10 result.
On the men's side, Filip Wahlqvist opened the season with three straight podium finishes. Stanley Buzek posted a pair of runner-up finishes in slalom, while Feb Allasina placed third and fourth in the two slalom races. In giant slalom, Justin Bigatel finished second and fourth, while Christoffer Oesterroem recorded fifth- and sixth-place finishes.
The women's squad has been led by Louison Accambray, who has opened the season with four straight podiums. She finished second and third in slalom before sweeping both giant slalom races, winning all four runs across the two events. Alexa Brownlie has four top-11 finishes to start the year, while Paige DeHart has posted two top-11 results. Cathinka Lunder has added a pair of top-12 finishes, and Hannah Soria opened her season with a 10th- and 14th-place showing.
The Buffs will look to carry that momentum into Nevada as the RMISA alpine season moves deeper into its championship phase.
