November 11, 2002 | Men's Basketball
BOULDER - The Colorado men's basketball team opened up their 2002-03 campaign with a 91-70 win over Northern State, a Division II school from Aberdeen, S.D., Tuesday night at the Coors Events Conference Center.
Sophomore center David Harrison led all scorers with 30 points (11-for-12) as four other Buffaloes ended in double figures. Harrison also grabbed 18 rebounds in the winning effort. Other Buffs contributing in the scoring column were forwards Michel Morandais and Stephane Pelle with 14 apiece while guard Blair Wilson chipped in 12.
Freshman Antoine McGee stepped into a starting role in his first collegiate game and had 10 points in his 28 minutes of playing time.
"One thing I like about (Antoine) McGee and some of the other freshmen is their maturity level," said head coach Ricardo Patton. "We tried different combos early on and McGee proved himself as a starting point guard. Everyday he has gotten better and better and will continue to improve in practice."
The Buffaloes led from the opening tip as Harrison hit a 5-foot jumper from the left side 19 seconds into the game. Colorado shot 52.6 percent (30-for-57) and out-rebounded its opponent by a 47-27 margin.
Northern State placed three players in double figures, led by Sundance Wicks' 14 points, Adam Grant scored 13 and Dan Lund added 11. The Wolves attempted 38 three-pointers, while making 16.
After leading by 12 at the break, Colorado began to pull away midway through the second half and increased its lead to as many as 24.
Colorado continues its exhibition season this Sunday, Nov. 17 against the EA Sports Southwest All-Stars beginning at 7 p.m.
