Vanderdys, Torres Torres Unbeaten at USAFA Invitational

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. ? Senior Jessica Vanderdys and sophomore Gleisy Torres Torres each remained undefeated in their respective flights to advance at the six-team United States Air Force Academy Women's Tennis Invitational. Joining the Buffaloes in the tournament are players from the Air Force, Colorado State, Denver, Northern Colorado, Wichita State and Wyoming.
Vanderdys, playing in Flight I defeated Corina Lazar of Wyoming and Denver's Rachel Sackmaster by identical 6-2, 6-1 scores.
In other singles flights, freshmen Monica Milewski and Franziska Jendrian each went 1-1 in Flight I as did sophomore Veera Nurmi and junior Martina Sedivec going 1-1 in Flight II; and sophomore Gleisy Torres Torres went 1-0 in her lone match defeating Meghan Kiser of Air Force, 6-4, 6-2. Senior Jenny Hanson went 1-1 in Flight IV.
In day two of the doubles portion, Vanderdys and Milewski teamed up for a perfect 4-0 doubles record claiming first place honors. Milewski/Vanderdys defeated fellow CU teammates Sedivec/Torres Torres in Saturday's Flight I morning final, 8-4. Sedivec and Torres Torres earned second place in the flight.
The Buffaloes also saw a successful showing by Nurmi and Jendrian, joined forces for a perfect 4-0 mark in Flight II. Nurmi/Jendrian defeated Karissa Walker and Erika Shortride of Air Force, 8-1.
In Flight III, Hanson teamed with Carmon Vasos of Northern Colorado for a 3-1 record. Hanson/Vasos shutout Meghan Kister/Anastasia Kostrubala of Air Force, 8-0 to claim second place accolades.
Sunday's play rounds out the singles competition with each CU women playing two singles matches apiece beginning at 8 a.m.
