Track: Relay Records Second Best Time In CU History

TEMPE, Ariz. ?  Brandon Johnson and the Colorado men's 4x100-meter relay team recorded regional qualifying marks on Saturday at the 17th Angel Sun Classic, hosted by Arizona State at the Joe Selleh Track in Tempe, Ariz.  

 

Lionel Lawson Jr., Chris Abuan, Samuel Napp and George Pincock made up the men's 4x100 relay team, which took first. They recorded a season-best mark of 40.3 seconds, which is the second best time recorded in Colorado program history. The school-record of 39.5 was set in 1971. Johnson recorded a personal best and a regional qualifying mark of 52.47 in the 400-meter hurdles.

 

Ryan Campbell finished seventh in the 100 (10.77). Napp (10.92) and Lawson Jr. (10.96) finished 13th and 14th, respectively. In the 400, Pincock took sixth (47.56), Abuan came in seventh (47.64) and Nate Terry finished 17th (48.50).

 

On the women's side, Jackie Sturm took ninth in the 100 with a time of 12.56. Dyamond Seay, running for the first time as a Buff, recorded a time of 12.61 to come in 10th and Veronica Maul finished 11th (12.97). Seay was the CU leader in the 200 as the Buffs finished 19th, 20th and 21st. She finished with a time of 25.60, followed by Sturm (25.83) and Maul (26.29). Allison Hawes took 13th in the 800 with a time of 2:19.80. The 4x400 relay team (Seay, Sturm, Maul and Hawes) recorded a sixth-place finish for CU with a season-best mark of 3:57.65.

 

Amberly Casey took fifth in both the triple and long jumps. She jumped 38-6.25 in the triple jump and notched a mark of 18-11.75 in the long jumps.

 

Colorado will be at several meets next weekend. The Buffs will participate in the Oregon, the Michael Johnson and the Jack Christenson Invites.
