Six Buffs Earn Top Honors At Rob Upton

FORT COLLINS, Colo. ? The University of Colorado track and field teams earned six first-place finishes at the Rob Upton Invitational in Fort Collins, Colo. on Saturday despite wet, rainy conditions. Ryan Willis, Hannah Warfield-Ruffatto and Kevin Waldron took top honors in the field, while Chris Abuan, Wil Buchanan and Sara Ensrud placed first on the track.

 

Willis recorded a throw of 51-03.00 to place first in the shot put. He also placed fourth in the discus (151-00). Warfield-Ruffatto and Waldron took first in the javelin. Warfield-Ruffatto earned a throw of 156-01, while Waldron threw 164-06. 

 

Abuan recorded a mark of 47.91 in the 200-meter dash, his first sprint of the outdoor season. Buchanan earned a time of 1:56.12 in the 800-meter run. Sara Ensrud, in her collegiate debut in the steeplechase, earned a top time of 11:18.91.

 

Several Buffs earned runner-up marks. Jackie Sturm and Trae Pflueger each came in second in the 100-meter dash. Sturm recorded a time of 12.75, while Pflueger came in at 11.08. Veronica Maul took second in the 400. She finished in 58.80. Dani Rodriguez finished the 800-meter run in 2:19.61 and Dan Edwards crossed the finish line in the steeplechase in 9:52.98, both in second place. 

 

Kaitlin Kark had a good day in the field, earning a pair of third-place finishes. She was third in the shot put (39-06.00) and in the discus (131-10). Kark also placed seventh in the hammer throw (145-11). Chynna McCall was fourth in the shot put, recording a throw of 38-04.75.

 

The Buffalo men placed third overall, collecting 75 points and the women took fourth with 63 points. Colorado State won the meet with 209 points for the men and 207 for the women.

 

The Buffs will be back in action on March 30-31 at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., or March 31 at the Tom Benich Invite in Greeley, Colo.
