Esposito Advances, Then Falls in Quarters

SAN DIEGO, Calif. ? A pair of University of Colorado doubles tandems advanced in the first day of the six-team San Diego State University Fall Classic II, Friday afternoon at Aztec Tennis Center.
The three-day event runs through Sunday, is the last of the fall campaign featuring the host Aztecs, Colorado, Oklahoma, San Diego, UC Irvine and Washington.
In the doubles B quarterfinals, Abbie Probert and Michala Hedelund Jensen defeated Milana Yusupov and Esther Cadua of San Diego State, 8-5, while in the Doubles C quarterfinals, Camila Belassi and Madie Kern edged Big 12 Conference rival Kristin Gray and Brittany Baldy of Oklahoma, 8-5.
It's the first time this fall season CU has paired those two doubles teams together. Each will play in Saturday's semifinals.
In singles, the Buffaloes did not fare has well with only Melisa Esposito advancing to the quarterfinals of the Singles A bracket before being ousted. Esposito defeated Maja Sujuca of San Diego in straight sets, 7-6, 6-0 winning her 12th match of the fall and 51st of career.
Esposito fell in the quarters to No. 28 ranked Venise Chan of Washington, 6-2, 2-0, retired.
