Salzmann Leads After Day 1

FORT COLLINS, Colo.-University of Colorado sophomore Adam Salzmann recorded two personal records and highlighted the Buffs' performance on the first day at the Glenn Morris Multi-Event Meet on Thursday.

Salzmann is currently leading the decathlon after the first five events with 3,538 points. He notched personal bests in the 100-meter dash (11.21 seconds) and the high jump (6 feet, 2 inches), finishing second in both events. Salzmann placed first in both the long jump (21-00.00) and the 400 (49.94). His time in the 400 is the ninth-fastest in CU combined events history.

Sophomore Eddie Taylor also performed well and is in second place with 3,308 points. Like Salzmann, Taylor set personal records in the 100 (11.26) and the high jump (6-00.75). He finished second to Salzmann in the 400 with a time of 51.69.

Freshman Jason DeWitt is in fourth place (3,119). He placed first in the high jump after clearing 6-3.25, which tied for the 14th best mark in CU's record book. DeWitt set personal bests in the 100 (11.88) and the 400 (54.60).

On the women's side, Brianne Beemer is in fourth place after the first four events of the heptathlon, recording 2,729 points. Holly Odneal is in seventh with 2,681 points and Katie Dreher is in eighth with 2,524 points.

Beemer recorded a personal best in the 200 with a time of 26.24, good for third place. She also finished third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.45. Odneal finished fourth, right behind Beemer, in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.46. Odneal also placed third in the shot put with a distance of 35-7.75. Dreher clocked in a personal best 26.17 in the 200 for second place.

The meet will conclude on Friday.
