Buffs Finish Strong At Beach Invitational

CERRITOS, Calif. –The University of Colorado track and field team closed out its third meet this week with several strong performances at the Beach Invitational on Saturday.

Junior Abrianna Torres, who placed fourth earlier in the week in the heptathlon at the California Invitational, had a good day. She won the long jump with a leap of 19-9.75 and tied for 10th in the high jump with a clearance of 5-5.

The 200 was a great event for the women with three Buffs recording sub-25 second times. Eileen Gehring has been getting better in every race this season, and Saturday was no different when she recorded a season best time of 24.58, which was 11th overall. Lindsy Mattson placed 18th in 24.55 and Tashay Brown raced to a personal best of 24.61, which was 20th at the meet.

Ana Holland recorded a fourth-place finish in the 100. She crossed the finish in 11.73, just .15 seconds behind the winner, Raquel Tiernagel (11.58).

Austin Mitsch had another great day with a pair of personal bests. He won the 200 in 21.03 and finished 12th in the 100 with a time of 10.61. In the 400, Jaylyn Mars picked up a 15th place finish, crossing in 48.44.

Sophie Hallam-Eames also had a PR at the Beach Invite. She placed 17th in the hammer throw with a PR of 171-0 and placed 26th in the discus (141-1). Alex Kizirian led CU in the shot put, placing 11th with a mark of 54-11.25; while Mariah Walker was the top female with a 10th place finish in the shot put (45-6.25). Brady Rutt was CU's top performer in the men's discus, launching it 166-6 for 19th place.

Bekah Daniel recorded an 18th place finish in the triple jump with a season best mark of 38-6, just .75 inches shy of her career best. Michael Egotanda was 28th in the men's triple jump with a leap of 44-1.50.

The Buffs had one last sprinter competing at Mt. SAC as well, Jaron Thomas, who qualified for the invitational section of the 400-meter hurdles. He finished 12th overall in 52.60.
