CU Represented By Nine Pac-12 All-Academic Student-Athletes

SAN FRANCISCO – Colorado's soccer team had nine players earn Pac-12 All-Academic honors on Wednesday. Kelsey Aaknes, Courtney Fedor, Erin Greening, Sarah Kinzner, Megan Massey, Hannah Scheid, Jalen Tompkins, Alex Vidger and Scout Watson were all named to the Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention.
 
To qualify, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, have been enrolled full time at their current institution for two or more consecutive semesters, and have participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions.
 
CU's soccer team finished the 2016-17 school year with a 3.292 cumulative GPA after recording a 3.291 GPA during the Spring Semester and a 3.227 GPA during the Fall Semester. The team has had a GPA of 3.0 or better for 17 consecutive semesters entering this fall, including 10 in a row at 3.2 or better. Only CU's women's ski team has a longer streak of consecutive semesters (11) at 3.2 or higher.
 
Aaknes is a sophomore from Carlsbad, Calif., and has a GPA of 3.01, while majoring in psychology. She started all 22 matches as a defender this season and recorded two assists.
 
Fedor is a senior from Bellevue, Wash., and has a GPA of 3.79, while majoring in integrative physiology. She started four times and appeared in 20 matches as a defender and midfielder this season.
 
Greening is a junior from Piedmont, Calif., and has a GPA of 3.32, while majoring in strategic communication with a focus in advertising and anthropology. She started 13 times as a defender and midfielder, while appearing in all 22 matches. She recorded an assist against Arizona State as well.
 
Kinzner is a junior from Calgary, Alberta, and has a GPA of 3.37, while majoring in accounting and finance. She started 18 matches with 20 appearances as a midfielder, while attempting 18 shots.
 
Massey is a junior from Highlands Ranch, Colo., and has a GPA of 3.05, while majoring in marketing. She started 21 of 22 matches as a midfielder and scored four goals and had six assists for 14 points.
 
Scheid is a senior from Wetzlar, Germany, and has a GPA of 3.66, while majoring in ecology and evolutionary biology. She appeared in 15 matches as a midfielder and had one assist against UC Riverside.
 
Tompkins is a redshirt sophomore from Phoenix and has a GPA of 3.67, while majoring in psychology. She started all 22 matches at goalkeeper and set the school records for goals-against average (0.58) and save percentage (.822), while leading the Buffs to a school-record 14 clean sheets.
 
Vidger is a junior from Castle Rock, Colo., and has a GPA of 3.68, while majoring in broadcast journalism. She started 19 of 21 matches as a defender and midfielder.
 
Watson is a redshirt junior from Overland Park, Kan., and has a GPA of 3.16, while majoring in strategic communication with a focus in public relations and communication. She made eight appearances as a backup goalkeeper, posting a 0.73 GAA and .786 save percentage, pairing with Tompkins for five of the team's 14 shutouts.
 
Twelve more Buffs meet the minimum GPA for all-academic honors, but do not meet either the time enrolled at CU or the minimum playing time to qualify: Tatum Barton (3.57), Jorian Baucom (4.00), Hannah Cardenas (4.00), Isobel Dalton (3.15), Libby Geraghty (4.00), Jordan Goodwin (3.24), Katie Joella (4.00), Courtney Kaplan (3.13), Caitlin McPherson (4.00), Cassie Phillips (3.23), Becca Rasmussen (3.73) and Stephanie Zuniga (3.06).
 
Colorado finished the 2017 season 12-6-4 overall, including 5-4-2 in the Pac-12 Conference. The Buffs reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
