Buffs Begin Competition in MLK Invitational

BOULDER – The University of Colorado track and field program began competition in the 2019 Dr. Martin Luther King Collegiate Invitational Friday evening in Albuquerque, N.M.

The Buffaloes competed in five jumping events, led by the performances of freshmen Josh Farmer and Jeremy Cody in the men's long jump and the men's high jump, respectfully. Farmer placed fourth in the men's long jump with a leap of 6.93m (22-9). Cody cleared 2.07m (6-9.5) to place fourth in the men's high jump. Both were personal bests with Farmer bettering his season-best mark by 20 centimeters while Cody cleared four centimeters higher than he did last week.

For the women, Maja Wichhart-Donzo and Kylee Harr were the top two performers for Colorado in the long jump and high jump, respectfully. Wichhart-Donzo jumped 5.55m (18-2.5) for ninth, while Harr placed seventh with a jump of 1.61m (5-3.5).

Also in the jumpers were Drianna Mustin (5.05m | 16-7) and Gunner Rigsby (6.79m | 22-3.5) in the long jump. Giancarlo Narvarte (1.97m | 6-5.5) and Michaela Wenning (1.56m | 5-1.25) both competed in the high jump as well.

Davis Butte also competed in the men's vault but was unable to clear a height in his attempts at 4.50m (14-9).

The Buffs are back in competition tomorrow in running events and the triple jump. Action begins at 10 a.m.
