Buffs Back in Action on Monday
November 02, 2019 | Women's Basketball
CU hosts Regis at 7 p.m.
BOULDER – Colorado women's basketball returns to the CU Events Center for the first time this season, hosting Regis in exhibition play on Monday.
The Buffaloes and Rangers will tipoff at 7 p.m. MT.
The 2019-20 team will have a youthful look. CU only has three upperclassmen this season, led by lone senior Quinessa Caylao-Do. Juniors Annika Jank and Mya Hollingshed are the other returning veterans.
Several new faces will make their debut for the Buffs. Colorado has four new freshmen to start this season. Jaylyn Sherrod, Zuzanna Kulinska, Charlotte Whittaker and Raanee Smith all will figure into the game plan this season for head coach JR Payne. Colorado native, Maura Singer is working her way back from injury.
An experienced sophomore class will help bridge the gap. Lesila Finau, Emma Clarke and Peanut Tuitele all played valuable minutes last season as freshmen. Kai Volcy came on late last season for the Buffs and redshirt sophomore Aubrey Knight returns from her season-ending shoulder injury.
Payne and the Buffs hope to build off last season's injury-riddled 12-18 finish. Colorado will need to spread out its distribution this season, having lost its two top-scorers from the previous seasons in Kennedy Leonard and Alexis Robinson. Caylao-Do returns as the team's top-contributor this season. She averaged 11.1 points per game last season. Hollingshed has averaged 8.8 points per game in two seasons.
Colorado welcomes in New Jersey Institute of Technology on Nov. 10 for the team's regular-season opener.
