Buffaloes Send Small Squad to Air Force

February 13, 2019 | Track and Field

BOULDER – The University of Colorado track and field program will send a small squad of 11 individuals to compete at the Air Force Collegiate Open this Friday at the Air Force Academy.

The Buffaloes will focus on throws, hurdles and jumps at this meet with hopes to hit a mark to qualify for the MPSF Championships next weekend in Seattle. There are six men and five women looking to better season marks or keep in practice for the championships.

The men's high jump will be an event to watch this weekend with Jeremy Cody and Giancarlo Narvarte competing for CU. Cody has a season best of 2.07 meters (6-9.5).

The weight throw will also be an event with five Colorado student-athletes competing. Elisa Grandemange and Mariah Walker will both throw on the women's side, while Brock Knechtel, Caleb Penner and Tyler Sconce will all compete for the men. Knechtel hit a huge personal best in the weight throw last weekend at the Husky Classic by nearly three feet and is poised to keep working up the lists. Both Sconce and Walker will also throw the shot put.

Also in the jumps for Colorado, Cheyenne Cheshier and Sarah Hopkins will compete in the triple jump. The duo has not competed in the event since the end of January and will have fresh legs to push for season-best marks.

The final event for the Buffaloes will be the 60 hurdles with Kylie Davis and Kellen Monestime competing. Davis ran a season-best 8.80 at the CU Invitational while Monestime competed at UC-Colorado Springs last weekend and ran a season-best 8.36 seconds.
