CU Hosts Northern Colorado at Boulder Country Club

February 05, 2019 | Tennis

BOULDER – The University of Colorado women's tennis team will host the University of Northern Colorado Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Boulder Country Club before traveling to Denver on Sunday to take on the University of Denver at 4:30 p.m.

This will be just the sixth match in CU history at the Boulder Country Club and the first since 2006 when the Buffaloes took on Texas. Colorado has a 4-1 record at the Boulder Country Club.

Colorado (3-2) finished the past week with a 2-1 record with wins against New Mexico at home and against Montana in the Courtside Classic in Minnesota. The Buffaloes came back to win 4-3 against the Lobos and finished off the Grizzlies by a score of 5-2. CU fell to DePaul in a close 4-3 match.

The Buffaloes have enjoyed success throughout the lineup, none more so than freshman Sara Nayar. One of the newest additions to the squad, Nayar joined the squad in January and since is undefeated in singles play with a 4-0 record. She is 3-0 playing at the No.3 singles player and just earned her first victory in the No.2 singles spot. Nayar finished both matches at the Courtside Classic undefeated as she went 2-0 in doubles matches as well. She is 2-0 playing with Megan Forster and 1-1 with Ky Ecton in doubles play.

Also for the Buffaloes, Monica Malinen continues to lead the Buffs with a strong presence in the No.4 singles position. She joins Nayar with a 4-0 record this dual season and is 10-4 this year in singles play. Malinen also is tied with Forster with seven total doubles wins this season.

The UNC Bears (3-2) have the same record as CU coming into this matchup. Northern Colorado began the season being swept at Air Force and most recently were swept 7-0 at the University of Denver. The three wins came at home with sweeps of NCAA Division II program CSU-Pueblo and NCAA Division II program Colorado College. They also defeated DII program MSU-Denver by a score of 6-1.

DU (4-1) comes into this matchup undefeated at home with a 4-0 win over New Mexico, a 5-2 win over BYU and the sweep of UNC. To start the dual season Denver defeated Oregon 4-0 but was swept by No.7-ranked Pepperdine 4-0. DU's Anna Riedmiller leads the team with a 4-0 record in the No.2 and No.3 singles spots. The team is undefeated in the No.1, No.3 and No. 6 positions this season.

Denver has two ranked individuals from the early Nov. 14 rankings, Arisha Ladhani at No. 85 and Bianca Mok at No. 89. Ladhani is 2-1 this season while Mok is 2-0.

There will be a free kids clinic following the match at the Boulder Country Club.
