Boee Takes Second, Buffs Finish Third At RMISA Championships
February 26, 2022 | Skiing
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo.—Magnus Boee finished second and the Colorado Buffaloes Ski Team finished third at the 2022 RMISA Championships, which triple as the NCAA West Regional and the CU Spencer James Nelson Memorial Invitational.  Saturday's racing concludes four days of events here at Mt. Werner and Howelsen Hill.Â
Five Buffs placed in the top 10 of the Nordic races and over on the slalom hill at Howelsen, the alpine teams took part in a parallel slalom exhibition. Â CU's Emma Hammergaard won the women's race with Elena Exenberger taking third, and Jacob Dilling hit the podium in the men's race in third place, as well.Â
Boee's runner-up in the men's 20K freestyle is his second in as many days, his sixth podium of the season and third in freestyle races. Â He now has 22 career podium appearances. Â He was joined in the top 10 by Fredrik Nilsen in eighth place and Oyvind Haugan in ninth. Â Ryan Jackson (13th) and Wyatt Gebhardt (19th) both finished in the top 20, as well. Â
In the women's 15K freestyle, Hanna Abrahamsson led the way in sixth place while Anna-Maria Dietze was just behind her in eighth. Â Kili Lehmkuhl had her best career performance in 14th for the Buffs. Â
The men won the freestyle race with 82 points and the women were third with 69. Â The top five of the RMISA standings kept in tact with Utah finishing the eight race meet with 690 points, 120 ahead of second place Denver (570) with CU taking third with 532.5 points. Â Montana State was fourth with 465 and Alaska Anchorage finished fifth with 435. Â
In the exciting action in the parallel slalom, Hammergaard won by beating Colorado Mountain's Ainsley Proffit in the Big Final after beating out Exenberger in the semifinals. Â Exenberger beat Utah's Sona Moravcikova in the Small Final to get third place. Â Kaitlyn Harsch had the second-fastest qualifier time and earned a bye in the Round of 16 and then lost to Proffit in the quarterfinals but had the best time of those that lost to pick up a fifth-place finish. Â
The Buffs won the race as a team with 103 points, ahead of second place Colorado Mountain with 74 and Alaska Anchorage was third with 60 with Utah scoring 53 and Denver 52. Â
On the men's side, Dilling had the second-fastest qualifying time and made it through to the semifinals before falling to Utah's Jeremy Mathers, who ended up winning. Â Dilling beat the Utes' Gustav Vollo in the semifinals for the podium appearance. Â
Bobby Ryan and Chase Seymour both made it to the quarterfinal round before being knocked out. Â Seymour lost to Dilling in that round and Ryan to Mathers. Â Seymour had the best time of those knocked out and ended up fifth and Ryan finished eighth. Â Alex Birkner finished ninth after having the best time of those knocked out in the quarterfinals when he almost beat Mathers in that round. Â Max Bervy the 16th fastest qualifying time and won in the preliminary round before falling to top seeded Vollo in the Round of 16. Â
The Buffs and Alaska Anchorage both tied for the lead of the men's race with 86 points with Utah taking third with 71, Denver 63 and Colorado Mountain 57. Â
The only racing that remains for the college teams is the NCAA Championships, set for March 9-12 in Park City and Midway, Utah, hosted by the Utes. Â The Buffs should qualify a full team of 12 skiers, which is the maximum number a team can send. Â Conversely, that also means the season is done for over half the team.Â
Qualifiers will be sent to the NCAA over the weekend and the official competitors for the NCAA Championships will be announced early this week.Â
