Nordic Set to Complete At Denver Invitational This Weekend
February 05, 2026 | Skiing
FRISCO – The Nordic portion of the Denver Invitational will bring the first full meet of the RMISA season to completion this weekend, with races scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 7, and Sunday, Feb. 8.
Saturday's action will feature 10K classic mass start races, followed by 7.5K freestyle interval start races on Sunday. The meet will mark the first Nordic competition since the Utah Invitational two weeks ago and will close out a Denver Invitational that began last month with alpine races in Loveland and Aspen.
After the alpine portion of the meet, Colorado leads the overall Denver Invitational standings with 353 points, but Denver (316) and Utah (284.5) remain within striking distance entering the Nordic races. The Buffs also hold the lead in the Nordic-only Utah Invitational standings, making this weekend pivotal as teams look to solidify early-season momentum.
The men will be a short-handed, as the Buffs will be without freshman Jakob Moch, who is currently in Italy preparing for the Olympic Games, Will Bentley, who is in Sweden racing, and Trey Jones. Moch posted a pair of runner-up finishes at the Utah Invitational, leaving a key scoring role to the Buffs' depth-heavy Nordic lineup. Bentley also had a pair of top 20 finishes at the Utah meet.Â
On the men's side, Storm Pedersen enters the weekend coming off a podium finish in the freestyle race at Utah, along with a fifth-place showing in the classic. Johannes Flaaten added solid consistency with seventh- and ninth-place finishes across the two races. Luka Riley also contributed a pair of top-20 finishes last time out. Â
The Colorado women showed impressive balance at Utah, led by Nina Schamberger, who earned her first two career podiums with third-place finishes in both races. Tilde Baangman narrowly missed the podium with a fourth-place result in the freestyle, while Astri Lunde followed up a sixth-place freestyle finish with a runner-up showing in the classic race.
Depth was again a hallmark for the Buffs, as Selma Nevin (10th), Elena Grissom (12th), and Sophie Spalding all logged top-20 finishes in both races.
The races were originally scheduled to take place at Denver's usually home at Maloit Park in Minturn, Colo., but were moved to Frisco two weeks ago due to snow conditions. Â
