November 16, 2002 | Men's Basketball
BOULDER - The Colorado men's basketball team turned in a triple-digit performance with a 113-96 win over the EA Sports Southwest All-Stars on Sunday night at the Coors Events Conference Center to head into regular season play with a pair of exhibition wins.
Junior forward Michel Morandais led the Buffs with 27 points as three others scored in double figures. Sophomore center David Harrison finished with 25 points (12-for-17) while junior guard Blair Wilson was 4-of-8 from beyond the arc en route to his 18-point effort. Freshman guard Jayson Obazuaye rounded out the double-digit scorers with a 10-point effort and grabbed five rebounds.
"It was a good win for us," head coach Ricardo Patton said. "We played hard and we played as a team. When we play unselfish basketball, we are a pretty good team. This was a different type of game that the first one (against Northern State). These guys were more athletic and had a good inside post-game. I think overall, it was a good test for us."
Junior Lamar Harris, a transfer from Compton Community College, was impressive on the boards, grabbing 10, seven coming on the defensive end. Harris added nine points to the winning effort. Freshman point-guard Antoine McGee added seven assists and six points for the Buffaloes.
Colorado had little trouble with the All-Star team made up of former college players from the southwest region as they led throughout with their largest margin, 29 points, coming with six minutes to play in the game. CU shot 56.3 percent from the field (45-for-80).
The leading scorer for EA Sports All-Stars was former Colorado State player Joe Vogel who scored 22 points. Former Buffalo Aki Thomas, who wore the black and gold from 1997-2000, returned to Boulder to score 12 points on his former home surface.
Colorado opens the 2002-03 home regular season this Friday, Nov. 22 against Cal Poly. Tip-off is at 8 p.m.
