MEN'S TRACK SECOND AT FALCON INVITATIONAL

USAF Academy, Colo. - University of Colorado men's track team took second place overall at the Air Force Classic Saturday held in Colorado Springs. In a four-team meet that included California, Colorado State and USAF Academy.  The CU men took home a total of 127.50 points.

The Buffaloes had the help of many first place finishes in multiple events. These included finishes by Brett Schoolmeester in the mile run with a time of 4:14.42, Jason Zichterman in the 800-meter (1:54.16), Brett Vaughn competing in the 3000-meter run (8:20.56), and Hugh Charles in the men's long jump (24-05.00). Along with the individual events came first place finishes in the 4x880-yard relay (7:45.70) and 4x440-yard relay with a team of Jason Zichterman, Chris Abuan, Nate Terry and George Pincock (3:16.72).

The men's squad also placed in many of the top slots throughout the invitational. Freshman Hugh Charles (6.88) took second in the 60-meter dash, Stephen Pifer (4:15.73) claimed second in the mile, while Payton Batliner (8:40.18) came in third in the 3000-meter run. In field events senior Andrew Miller took second in the high jump with a jump of 6-09.00 along with placing seventh in the long jump (21-04.00).

The women captured third place overall with a total of 116 points. Leading the women's team were first place finishes by Renee Metivier (5:01.80) in the mile run, Christine Bolf (10:16.27) in the 3000, Anna Magle (5-08.75) competing in the high jump, and a first place finish by the women's 4x880-yard relay team with a time of 9:35.85.

Other events taking place Saturday included many personal bests by both the men and the women Buffs. Jaclyn Sturm broke two of her personal best with a fourth-place finish in both the 60-meter (7.96) and the 200-meter dash (25.82), along with Kate Hamera (2:20.76) in the 800-meter run with a fourth place finish, and Cortney Hutmacher in the weight throw (58-01.00) placing third. On the men's side, Andy Passen came in second place in the shot put with a new best of 55-03.50 and Samuel Napp created a new best of 22.01 in the 200-meter placing seventh, respectively.

Colorado State won its fifth consecutive title for the women Rams placing them first; following in second was California. The Rams also took home the first place title for the men's side in their sixth repeated win at the invitational. Coming in third behind the Buffs was Cal.

The Buffaloes will return to the track on February 12 in Seattle Washington for the Husky Invitational.
