Hazen Breaks School Record At Husky Classic

Seattle, Wash.Zach Hazen recorded a school record toss of 63-00.75 at the 2007 Husky Classic at Dempsey Indoor in Seattle, Wash., on Saturday. Hazen owned the previous record of 61-07.75, set last year at the Don Barrett Open at the U.S. Air Force Academy.

 

Jenny Barringer led the Buffs with a first place finish in the women's 3,000 meter run. Barringer took top honors in the event, edging out Kristin Anderson of the Nike team by one second, coming in at 9:21.56. The mark was above the provisional qualifying mark of 9:34.00.

 

Amberly Casey had a stellar day, taking  fourth place honors in the women's long jump with a leap of 19-01.25, before earning a fifth place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 38-09.50.  

 

In the men's 3,000 meter, Brent Vaughn finished 11th with an 8:04.21 time, as teammates Pete Janson and Stephen Pifer followed close by at 8:04.66 and 8:07.69 respectively. Vaughn and Janson each recorded provisional qualifying marks.

 

Ryan Willis and James Begley led the Colorado men with admirable finishes in the men's shot put. Willis finished third in the event, throwing to a mark of 53-00.00, while Begley finished just behind in sixth place with a throw of 51-03.75.

 

In the women's weight throw, Cortney Hutmacher took tenth place at 55-07.00, as Kaity Kark threw a 42-03.50 mark.

 

In the men's mile, Anthony Chiulli took 12th place with a time of 4:03.05, while Rob Thayer and Kenney Daniel finished right behind at 4:09.37 and 4:09.72 respectively.

 

The Buffaloes will be back in action on February 23, as they head to Ames, Iowa for the Big 12 Indoor Championships.
