Barringer Records Regional Mark
April 05, 2008 | Track and Field
Barringer won the event for her first victory of the 2008 track season. It was her first competition since racing to a runner-up finish at the 2007 NCAA Cross Country Championship in November.
“It was exciting to get out and run a really solid and confident race,” Barringer said. “A lot of time the first race of the season isn't your primary event and so it was really nice for me to be able to go out and run my event in the first race of the season.”
Although there are a couple of months to earn the regional standard, Barringer was excited to record it so early in the season.
“It's (the regional mark) a huge weight off my shoulders,” she explained. “In a sense the hard work is over for a few months. A very key step in my season has been accomplished and it's very encouraging as the season progresses.”
The race was almost like a time trial for Barringer as she cruised past the field.
Brandin William's earned his second first-place finish in as many weeks in the javelin with a toss of 199 feet and 10 inches in his third attempt.
Chelsea Haverty came away with
Dani Rodriguez was third in the 800-meter run. She finished in 2:20.10. Nate Terry earned a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash. He crossed the line in 48.84.
James Begley had two fourth-place finishes in the field events for
Parker Fales only recorded two fair jumps in the triple jump, but his second mark of 43-10.00 was good enough to get him fourth-place. Ryan Dresen led the CU men in the vertical jumps. He placed fourth in the high jump with a mark of 6-02.75.
The Buffs will be back in action on Saturday, April 12 at the CU Invitational. The combined event athletes will compete at the UCLA Rafter Johnson/Jackie Joyner Kersee Invitational on April 10-11.
