Wahlqvist Second, DeHart Sixth In Alpine Qualifier Races To Lead Buffaloes

February 26, 2026 | Skiing

BOZEMAN, Mont. — With the postseason looming, the Colorado Buffaloes Ski Team closed the regular season Thursday at Bridger Bowl with the final alpine qualifier, a rescheduled slalom race that offered one last opportunity to solidify NCAA positioning before the RMISA Championships.

There was no team scoring on the line — only individual results as skiers chase qualification through this weekend's RMISA Championships. The Buffs competed with shortened lineups, as Alexa Brownlie and Stanley Buzek sat out to prepare for the upcoming U23 World Championships.

Filip Wahlqvist delivered Colorado's top performance, finishing second in the men's race after holding the first-run lead. The women saw three finishers, highlighted by Paige DeHart's season-best slalom result, while the day also featured momentum-building efforts and a few tough breaks as the Buffs head into championship racing.

HOW IT HAPPENED

On the men's side, Wahlqvist set the tone early. He laid down the fastest first run (47.36) and carried the lead into the second run, chasing what would have been his first slalom victory of the season and the 10th of his career. A small mishap on his second run dropped him to second overall in 1:35.79, still a strong result entering championship competition.

Christoffer Oestroem started 30th and methodically climbed the standings. After moving up two spots on the first run, he delivered the third-fastest second run in the field to surge into a tie for 16th, finishing in 1:37.31. Feb Allasina sat second after the first run and was in position to contend for his first collegiate slalom win but did not finish his second run. Justin Bigatel, who started 25th and climbed to 12th after his opening run, also did not finish his second run while pushing for a higher placement.

In the women's race, Louison Accambray did not finish her first run, ending her school-record streak of 11 consecutive podium finishes. The run capped a remarkable stretch that broke an 18-year-old women's alpine record of nine straight podiums at Colorado and surpassed the overall alpine mark that had stood since 1962.

Paige DeHart produced her best slalom finish of the season. Sitting third after the first run (50.81), she slipped to sixth overall but still secured a valuable result in 1:44.09 as NCAA qualification tightens. Hannah Soria climbed from a 22nd start position to 10th after her first run before settling into 12th overall. Cathinka Lunder endured a difficult first run that placed her 28th but responded with the fastest second run in the field — the first of her Colorado career — to move up to 22nd, providing momentum heading into the postseason.
