Strong Nordic Performance, Two Alpine Podiums Highlight Day

BOZEMAN, Mont. & MIDWAY, Utah – The Colorado Buffaloes Ski Team delivered a powerful Nordic performance and added two alpine podiums Friday, but Utah seized control after the opening day of the 2026 RMISA Championships.

Storm Pedersen finished second to lead a dominant men's Nordic victory, Jakob Moch placed fourth in his return from the Winter Olympics, and Tilde Baangman added a fourth-place finish in the women's race as Colorado piled up points at Soldier Hollow. Louison Accambray and Filip Wahlqvist then produced podium finishes in slalom at Bridger Bowl.

Despite the strong individual efforts, Utah leads the team standings with 344 points. Denver sits second with 290, while Colorado is third at 286 — just four points out of second but 58 behind the Utes. Montana State is fourth with 247.

Wahlqvist finished second for the second straight day, missing his first slalom win of the season by just .02 seconds. Accambray returned to the podium after a DNF the day prior, earning her 12th podium in 13 races this season and matching the Colorado alpine single-season record.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The championships opened with the men's 7.5K classic at Soldier Hollow, and Colorado immediately took control.
Pedersen finished second behind UAA's Erling Bjoernstad, while Moch placed fourth in his first race back from the Winter Olympics. The Buffs' depth overwhelmed the field as Johannes Flaaten (7th), Luka Riley (8th) and William Bentley (9th) rounded out five Colorado skiers in the top nine. The Buffs won the race with 93 points.

The women followed with another strong showing. Baangman led the way in fourth, Astri Lunde placed sixth, Selma Nevin 13th and Elena Grissom 16th as Colorado scored 77 points and finished third in the race, just one point behind Denver and second place.
Alpine competition unfolded simultaneously at Bridger Bowl. In the women's slalom first run, Accambray sat fourth, Paige DeHart 13th, Cathinka Lunder 19th and Hannah Soria 20th.

The men's first run brought adversity. Wahlqvist sat second after the opening run, but Feb Allasina and Christoffer Oestroem both did not finish. Justin Bigatel sat 32nd after the first run, leaving Colorado short-handed.

In the afternoon's second run, Accambray used the third-fastest second run to move into third place for her 12th podium of the season. DeHart posted the fourth-fastest second run to climb from 13th to seventh. Lunder slipped to 25th and Soria did not finish.

With just two men in the second run, both finished. Wahlqvist held his runner-up position, finishing just two-hundredths behind Westminster's Alejandro Puente Tasias. Bigatel rebounded from 32nd to finish 25th with a solid second run.
