Dodson and Casey Take Top Honors At Don Barrett Open

AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. ? The University of Colorado received four first-place finishes at the Don Barrett/Air Force Open at the Cadet Chapel at the Air Force Academy on Saturday. Jeremy Dodson took first in the 60-meter dash and Amberly Casey won the triple and long jumps, while the women's mile relay also took first.

 

Dodson set a personal best 6.76, which was good for first place. Dodson, a sophomore transfer, tied the seventh-best time in CU history in the event and became the third fastest performer for the Buffs behind Jonathan Prather and Marcus Stiggers. Dodson ran a mark of 6.84 in the preliminaries.

 

Casey recorded a personal best in the triple jump with a mark of 39-09.75. She earned a leap of 19-01.25 in the long jump. Chelsea Haverty took second in the triple jump with a mark of 18-00.25.

 

The women's mile relay took first with a time of 3:59.85, besting Colorado State. CSU came in second at 4:01.01. Veronica Maul, Sasha Abuan, Chelsea Haverty and Troi Smith made up the team.

 

Cortney Hutmacher took second in the weight throw, notching a throw of 57-07.00.

 

Ryan Campell was third in the 200-meter dash. He came in at 21.64, which was a personal record. Blayne Kelly took fourth in the 60-meter hurdles. She recorded a mark of 9.30. Kelly recorded a personal best in the prelims with a time of 9.04. Zach Hazen also took fourth in his event. He recorded a throw of 58-09.25, his best mark of the season.

 

The Buffs will be back in action on Feb. 2-3 at the Air Force Invitational. CU will send its whole team and it will be the first meet for the distance team.
