Dodson And Campbell Break School 200-Meter Record at Air Force Invitational

AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. ? Jeremy Dodson and Ryan Campbell broke the Colorado 200-meter school record at the Air Force Invitational at the Cadet Fieldhouse on Saturday, Feb. 2. Dodson took first with a mark of 21.12 and Campbell took third in 21.15.

 

The former record was held by Erik Mitchell at 21.34. It was set on Feb. 27, 1993 in Ames, Iowa at the Big Eight Indoor Championship. Both Dodson and Campbell's marks were provisional qualifying marks for nationals.  On top of his performance in the 200, Campbell took second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.76.

 

In the men's 400-meter, Anthony Chiulli took top honors at 1:53.69, followed by Will Buchanan's second place time at 1:55.14, while Daniel Kenny came in at 155.80 in fourth place.

 

Stephen Pifer and Pete Janson's respective 4:14.87 and 4:18.24 were good enough to finish first and second in the men's mile, while on the women's side, Jenny Barringer took top honors for the Buffs at 4:56.40.

 

The women's 3,000-meter saw another Colorado one-two finish in senior Erin Marston and freshmen Hilary McClendon. Marston turned in a 10:52.02 mark, as McClendon finished the race at 11:19.24. Chris Pannone took second in the men's 3,000-meter with a time of 9:07.58.

 

The Buffs took second place honors in the men's 4x400 yard relay (Dodson, Nate Terry, Campbell, George Pincock), just .39 behind Wichita State's time, at 3:16.95 to wrap up the day.

 

Amberly Casey took first in the women's long jump with a leap of 19-08.00, while also finishing third in the triple jump with a mark of 39-06.00, as Chelsea Haverty took third place behind her teammate in the long jump at 18-02.25.

 

Cortney Hutmacher continued her stellar season, taking second in the women's weight throw at 61-00.00. In the men's shot put, Ryan Willis and James Begley finished fourth and fifth place respectively, with throws of 53-03.00 and 51-10.00.

 

The Colorado men finished the meet in second place as a team with 109 points in a field of 12 teams, while the women took third out of 14 teams with 76 points.

 

The Buffaloes will be back in action on February 10, at the Washington Husky Invitational in Seattle, Wash. and at the New Mexico Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.
